Garden Etiquette

THE BOTANIC GARDEN IS A MUSEUM OF LIVING PLANTS. THE FOLLOWING POLICIES WERE DESIGNED TO PROTECT THE PLANT COLLECTION AND ENHANCE VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

  • Please refrain from climbing on trees and shrubs, picking fruits and vegetables, walking in garden beds and collecting plants, flowers or labels. Fallen leaves, flowers, or other plant materials must be left on the ground unless permission has been obtained from the Curator or the Gardeners.

  • Support animals are permitted on Garden grounds. No pets, please.

  • The Garden provides many benches throughout the grounds for resting. Please refrain from lying down on benches, so that other visitors may have a seat. Laying blankets on the grass is never permitted.

  • Having lunch in the Botanic Garden is not permitted. 

  • Stay on pathways and mowed lawn areas. Do not walk in mulched or planted garden beds.

  • Deposit trash in designated receptacles.

  • Smoking is prohibited in all buildings. Smoking is permitted in all outdoor areas.

  • You can take photographs and videos in the Garden for personal use. Permission is required foranyphotography needing a tripod and foranypainting requiring an easel. Special permission is required for commercial photography / painting / filming / recording anywhere in the Gardens. Permits can be obtained from the Curator office. Equipment must not disrupt Garden activities or inconvenience other visitors.

  • For their safety, please supervise children at all times.

  • Cycles must be left in the parking spaces provided for them near the entrances.

  • The Director, Curator or Gardeners are able to exclude from the Garden any person who is considered to be guilty of misconduct.

  • The Garden reserves the right to refuse admission.

  • Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
