The genus Rosa is one of the hardest to identify, because of its great variability, and because some species crossbreed each over easily.
In Italy the studies on the genus Rosa are not extensive and the latest Floras refer to foreign authors identification keys; at the moment an exhaustive and complete study of the different species and their distribution in the Bologna area doesn’t exist.
The roses in this collection are the detected and gathered ones in the Bologna region, but further explorations and collections will certainly reveal the presence of other species.
